Christians and Violence, A Coda

May 16, 2007

An update on my previous post about Christians and Violence.

Last Sunday, my pastor preached from the pulpit the following idea:

The victims of Virginia Tech are all our children; we must protect them.  It is God’s will that we not ignore all of God’s children.  Therefore, we must fight for gun control, to make sure that more deaths like VT will not occur.

At that moment, I wondered what would happen if masked gunmen burst into the sanctuary and started to open fire.

I’m hoping to get with my pastor and have a solemn discussion about his message.

Quote of the Moment

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ---C.S. Lewis
